Brake Ink is a watercolor paper studio located in Washington DC.
Elizabeth has always loved viewing art and making art. She discovered her passion for watercolor while studying, eating and painting her way through Southern France.
The company is named after one of Elizabeth's many nicknames, Brakes. Even though her last name has changed from Brakebill to McAdam, the name has stuck around and now serves to bring watercolor cheer to paper lovers everywhere.

How are your products made?
All of our designs feature Elizabeth's original watercolor art. We support our fellow small businesses and print everything locally and regionally on socially and environmentally responsible paper.
How long do Custom orders take?
For personalized orders placed through the website, please plan for 10-12 days for your items to ship.
How do you ship?
New for 2023- we are very excited to share that we have LOWERED shipping prices! We work hard to keep our shipping prices low, even as postage rates rise every year. For most packages, we ship USPS First Class & Priority Mail and UPS Ground. You will receive a shipping confirmation when your order ships with the tracking number.
What are your shipping rates?
Orders up to $6: $3
Orders up to $30: $5.50
Orders from $30.01 to $100: $8.75
Orders from $100.01-$250: $12
Orders $250+: $18
Do you do custom designs and logos?
Of course! We love a creative challenge so please bring your ideas and we’ll do our best to make them a reality! Custom designs carry a design fee in addition to the printing charges. The fee amount will be set after we get a better idea of what you're looking for and how long we estimate the process to take.
How long does it take to create a custom design?
The turnaround time depends on the scope and complexity of the project. Our priority is creating a design that exceeds your vision and meets your timeline so please make sure and tell us on the front end if you have a tight turnaround. Most custom designs involve a lot of work and revision.
I like a design on your website but I want to make a few changes to it. Is that possible?
Our designs have been carefully curated to ensure that the colors, designs, and fonts complement each other. But with that being said, feel free to
contact us and we will try our best to accommodate. Additional fees may apply.
Do you sell your products in stores?
Do you gift wrap?
We currently do not offer gift wrap but all of our products are finished in clean and simple packaging. If you are shipping straight to a gift recipient, please put a gift message in the NOTES section of the checkout page. We are happy to add a ribbon and a gift card.
